I've been wanting to make a simple black and white blanket for a while and decided to do something that wouldn't take a lot of time or thought. Using three yarn strands, a large hook, and one simple crochet stitch made this blanket come together quickly. I love working on complicated patterns and special stitches, but I've been doing that for a while lately and was in desperate need for some mindless crocheting :) The entire blanket is crocheted with only the single crochet stitch.
I started out with just a black and a white yarn, but when I felt the Paton's baby yarn I had to incorporate it. It is so soft and I knew that it would add that extra touch of softness to this blanket, which it did. I also liked it because it was a lighter weight than the others and didn't cause a lot more bulk.
Materials I used
3 skeins Caron Simply Soft (9701 White); 3 skeins Caron Simply Soft (9727 Black); 2.5 skeins Paton's Beehive Baby Sport (Baby Grey Marl)
Size US S-35 19mm hook
Approx. 54” x 40” (137” x 102 cm)
With all three colors, Ch 70 (Should be approx. 40").
Row 1: SC in each ch. Ch 1. Turn.
Row 2: SC in each SC. Ch 1. Turn.
Repeat until you have used all of the black and white yarn. You will have some of the grey yarn left over.
Tie off. Weave in ends with tapestry needle.
You can scale this down to make it a baby blanket and choose any colors you wish to make your own beautiful blanket. The possibilities are endless. Have fun making your own creation. I'd love to see any that anyone makes.
Until next time...
