Print Etsy Shipping Labels *Workaround*

I recently needed to ship a few of my Etsy items to friends, as gifts, without charging them. One of them was to be sent internationally and I really love the fact that with Etsy you can ship First Class International and the customs form is all done up and everything {no need to go stand in line at the Post Office}. I do know there is a workaround through PayPal, and I have used that many times, but you can't ship First Class International with PayPal, only Priority.

I went into my Etsy account to print shipping labels and quickly found that you can't just print shipping labels. You can only print a shipping label for an item that you sell. Well, I don't take no very well, so I dug around online looking for a solution. I found several other people needing to do the same thing as me, but there was no solution. I came up with one though. Here's what I did, and it works perfectly. {I did wonder if it would let me do this more than once, but I made 3 separate purchases with 3 separate shipping addresses with no issues}.

I created a "reserved" listing in my shop and priced it at $0.30. I tried $0.20, and it worked, but when I went to purchase the item Etsy wouldn't let me, saying it wasn't enough. After all was said and done I found that the listing price needs to be $0.26 {that is Etsy's minimum fee}. So create your listing for $0.26.

Yes, I'm paying $0.26 to do this, but to me my time is worth way more than that to not have to stand in line at the post office.

When you create your "reserved" listing don't use a photograph; create and use something with text that says "Reserved Listing." You don't want to use a photograph because you don't want someone to actually purchase this item. Having it say "Reserved Listing" with no photo pretty much lets people know that this isn't an item that they would want to purchase. This is what I made:

While doing my homework online I found that when you do a reserved listing it's best to put a name of who it's for. So I made one up. As you see it's for Tanya. Make the quantity something like 99. I did this so that it stays there for when I want to print labels in the future. I made the shipping fee $0.00.

Now that you have your listing created you need to create a "dummy" Etsy account. I created mine with another of my email addresses. We all have more than one email address, don't we? If you don't you can get one on Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, etc.

Once you create and confirm your new Etsy account just navigate to your shop and add the reserved listing to your cart and checkout. Pay the $0.26 and fill out the shipping address of the label you really need to make.

It will take a couple of minutes for Etsy to complete the transaction on their end and you will then get your email that you have a sold order and you can now purchase and print your shipping label!

It may sound like a lot, but it took me maybe 10 minutes to do all of this, and that includes creating the reserved listing, which is now already done for future uses.

I hope you find this helpful. If you have any questions just comment and let me know.

How To Fix Passbook Connection Error in iOS 6

If you're like me and updated to Apple's new iOS 6 then you've probably noticed the new Passbook App.

As soon as I saw it I clicked on it, wanting to check it out and get started using it.  The only problem with this was that every time I clicked on it I kept getting this error:

I even found a 'fix' online where you change the date in your phone to a year ahead.  This didn't work for me, so I did some more digging and found that the Passbook App actually works with other apps that use the Passbook feature.

What you have to do is go into the participating apps and then load items from them into Passbook, then when you click on Passbook your items will appear.  Here are some examples of some apps that participate with the Passbook app:

Target.  If you don't already have the Target app installed, it is in the app store.  Once you download it there will be coupons in there and it will ask if you want to send them to your Passbook.  Once you've sent them to your Passbook and then click on the Passbook app, you will no longer get the connection error, but rather will see the Target coupon in the Passbook app.

This is what it will look like when you open Passbook

Sephora.  Again, if you don't already have the Sephora app installed, it is in the app store.

Once you install it, open the Sephora app and you will see the sign in message below and then the prompt to add your Beauty Insider card to Passbook.  No more digging around to find that card!

And here are some more apps that work with Passbook.  And it's the same as the first two apps, where you need to install them and then follow the instructions within the apps to load items into Passbook.

I have included apps/companies I would use with Passbook, but I believe some other apps that work with Passbook so far are Walgreen's, Live Nation, Lufthansa, and I'm sure there are more, but these are what I know of so far. And there are rumors that Starbucks will be added by the end of this month.

I hope this helps you get past the frustrating connection error and able to utilize the Passbook app.  If you have any other information regarding this, please share it in the comments below.  Thanks!
